Biography

Biography:
More than 70 years ago, the Mackrone family started selling pizza at a restaurant near the Trenton fairgrounds in New Jersey. It was going pretty well so they decided to open a shop on the Seaside Heights boardwalk, which was also successful. One day they decided to jump in their car to take a fun road trip down to south Jersey. They ended up in the little town of Wildwood, which had become a hot vacation spot. They loved the town and decided to open up a shop on Wildwood's boardwalk.

The grand opening on Memorial Day weekend 1953 didn't go so hot. As a matter of fact, it poured rain all weekend and they only sold 8 pies the entire weekend! But this wasn't an indication of the success they were soon to have in the coming decades--eventually they had 4 locations and have become one of Wildwood's and New Jersey's most famous pizzerias.

What to expect from a Mack's pizza? A thin crust, cheddar-drive cheese blend, and a sweet tangy sauce.

We have the traditional fight in the family - Mack's or Sam's -- younger generation are Sam's fans older are Mack's fans. For me there is no comparison its Mack's all the way. but, you have to eat it there - it loses something when you bring it home. The thin slice, crispy crust, slightly sweet sauce and the cheese, oh the cheese - greasy, yep but that's what makes the flavors go together perfectly - couple that with a Birch Beer and I'm in heaven. heading up to the boards today to get my last slice or two of the season!!!

I have been going to Macks since the slices were 35 cents, now at $2.50 a slice you are getting a double slice than years ago. I will always Love Macks Pizza up on the Boards in Wildwood. Paired with a Birch Beer is Perfect on a great summer night.

I grew up on Wildwood vacations. Every year I talked about my favorite things to do...,Macks Pizza was top of the Boardwalk list! After a day in the ocean it was The Treat that we looked so forward to eating! It was fun watching the employees throw the pies in the air.

No comparison, Mack's is the best! Perfect balance of thin crispy dough with perfect sauce and real cheese. Some think it's greasy. I think it's perfect, a little grease means it's real cheese.

2nd best slice on the boardwalk. A little to greasy for my liking, but still great.

I only remember Mack's Pizza at the beginning of Funtown Pier around 1963 or so ... Not so sure about it being in the Heights
