New Pizzerias in Wildwood 2016
We visited all three new Wildwood pizzerias. Here's our experience, in short.
1. Slice
120 W Walnut Ave
North Wildwood, NJ 08260
Phone number: (609) 770-3004
Right in North Wildwood on New Jersey Avenue, you'll almost definiltey pass Slice anytime you enter and exit the island via the north end of the island. The wood fire oven causes the medium-thick crust to be somewhere between chewy and crisy. The sauce resembles a pasta sauce. The cheese, initially a highlight due to its delightful chewiness, ended with a smokey, meaty flavor that caused displeasure among our group. In addition to cheese slices, we tried some speciality slices, which we enjoyed. The small but serviceable dining area and gelato dessert was also not a bad touch. Slice is a welcome addition to the North Wildwood pizza scene.
2. Little Angelo’s Pizza Spot
3020 Maple Avenue (on Boardwalk)
Wildwood, NJ
Phone number: (609) 305-4673
Little Angelo’s Pizza Spot, the only new pizzeria located on the boardwalk this year, offers a variety of pizzeria menu standards. The slice we had was fresh, crispy and flavorful. The cheese was this pizza’s highlight — sweet and chewy. This slice was not for sauce lovers — sauce was minimal and pasty, not playing a big role in the overall experience. The medium-thick crust had decent flavor but there was too much of it. The biggest drawback for this slice was the charred flavor, picked up somewhere in the process of being cooked and re-heated upon our order.
3. Abbrussese's Pizza
230 E Rio Grande Ave
Wildwood, NJ
Phone number: (609) 600-2098
Technically, Abbrussesse's opened up in 2015, but we didn't get a chance to try them till early 2016 -- so we're including them in this review! Located right on Rio Grande Avenue as you enter Wildwood, Abbrussese's Pizzeria features a variety of menu items and a small casual dining room. We were greeted by a friendly staff and most enjoyed the crust on our large cheese pizza. Thin and crispy, the crust was was a pleasure to bite into. Most of the flavor from this slice came from the sweet sauce -- with the cheese taking a back seat.
