[Updated] New Places to Eat on the Wildwood Boardwalk - 2018 Guide

2018 New Places to Eat on the Wildwood Boardwalk

If boardwalk food, drink and dessert is your thing, there are several new Wildwood boardwalk places you need to know about for Summer 2018! If you aren't already hungry, you may be soon. Please proceed with caution.

[UPDATE]: A lot has changed since this post was first released on Memorial Day Weekend! This page is and will be continually updated!

Wilhelm's Bier Garten

Morey's newest spot for light food and beverage is Wilhelm's Bier Garten, positioned beneath the Sea Serpent rollercoaster and at the foot of the Giant Ferris Wheel on Mariner's Pier. The modest menu includes bratwurst, pretzels, cheese curds, hot dogs, chicken tenders and french fries. There are two more menu items that stand out; fried pierogies, served with sour cream and apple sauce, and bavarian bacon skewers made with "double smoked bacon and fried pierogies," served on a stick.

Of course, it wouldn't be a "bier garten" without beer! The beer selection features a selection of German imports and styles (including selections from Warsteiner and Hacker-Pschorr breweries), as well as local and domsetic offerings such as Cape May Brewing, Miller Lite and Yuengling Lager. The drink menu also includes Riesling and Chianti wine, lemon and orange shakeups, and fountain soda.

We really like the seating area, which includes tables and benches surrounded by plants and flowers for a true beer garden feel.

It can be a little loud with the Sea Serpent rollercoaster looming above your head, but overall we highly enjoy this new spot.

Beach Bucket Bling Cafe

Just steps from the Convention Center is the new Beach Bucket Bling Cafe. The first thing we noticed is the shop's welcoming and well polished appearance, quickly followed by the large menu of unique offerings including "Dragon's Breath" (check out the video below), edible cookie dough, Italian red bull sodas, edible "glitter" (essentially a sparkling sugar ice cream topping), premium chocolate covered pretzels and usual ice cream shop offerings.

What is Dragon's Breath?

It's almost like a larger form of Cap'n Crunch cereal mixed with nitrogen, served in a tall cup and eaten with a large toothpick. Due to the nitrogen, this treat is both very cold and gives the appearance that you are exhaling "Dragon's Breath" (a.k.a. nitrogen) when you breath out through your mouth or nose after consuming. While the flavor of this dessert isn't especially notable, the experience of watching the creation of Dragon's Breath and exhaling the nitrogen is a fun one.

Taste of Transylvania Chimney Cake House

If the name "Taste of Transylvania Chimney Cake House" doesn't get your attention, maybe the description of a chimney cake will. We honestly couldn't describe it better than our friends at Wildwood365 did in their article, so we humbly share their excellent description here:

"Chimney Cakes...are split cakes specific to Hungary and Hungarian-speaking regions of Romania. They are made from sweet yeast dough, of which a strip is spun and then wrapped around a truncated cone-shaped baking split, then rolled in granulated sugar.

It is roasted over charcoal while basted with melted butter, until its surface cooks to a golden brown color. during the baking process, the sugar on the cake carmelizes and forms a shiny, crispy crust. The surface of the cake can then be topped with additional ingredients such as ground walnut or powdered cinnamon."

The Chimney Cake House, located in North Wildwood between 22nd and 23rd Avenue, is open but was still getting their store prepped for the day at the time of our visit, but we are looking forward to trying their exotic dessert the first chance we get!

Dragon's Lab The Original Ice Cream Man

This shop originally had a sign reading "The Original Ice Cream Man" above it, but quickly transformed into "Dragon's Lab" in time for Memorial Day Weekend. The shop features "Dragon's Breath" (a dessert we first spotted at Beach Bucket Bling Cafe -- see above for details and a description), waffle cones made-to-order and "rolled tacos" (ice cream in taco shape). Located on the boardwalk at the Boardwalk Mall, we look forward to trying all of their desserts this season.

A second location of Dragon's Lab is now open on the boardwalk between Maple and Pine Avenues.

The Rollin' Girls

The Rollin' Girls dessert shop, located near Adventure Pier between Baker and Roberts Avenue, opened Memorial Day weekend with a modest menu that features ice cream, smoothies, milkshakes and made-to-order bubble waffle sundaes.

Auntie Anne's

A new location of Auntie Anne's pretzels is now open on the boardwalk near Oak Avenue!

Now Open: Morey's Pigdog Beach "Bar BQ"

PigDog Beach BarBQ - Morey's Pier, Wildwood NJ

The all-new Pigdog Beach BarBQ will be opening opened this June behind the Ferris Wheel on Mariner's Pier. This new Morey's Pier spot is "made so you can drink up and pig out! The new barefoot beach bar is a dog friendly, bbq spot on the beach behind Raging Waters. Bring the whole family and enjoy brews and chews with ocean views." Sounds good to us. More information about the Pigdog is available on the Morey's Pier website.

Expansions and Renovations: Capt'n Jacks, Ken & Mary's, and Stewart's

We are excited to see the expansions and renovations of these boardwalk staples:

Capt'n Jacks has substansially expanded it's second floor seating by taking over the upstairs formerly inhabited by Sand Jamm. We haven't stopped up yet, but from the outside it looks like they've done a nice job with the look and feel of the new seating area.

Ken & Mary's ice cream shop has moved down a few stores and now has twice as much space, which allows for significantly more seating than their original location. Sounds good to us!

Stewart's has enclosed their second floor deck. Now outfitted with large garage style windows, Stewart's second level can offer open air seating when weather permits and "batten down the hatches" as needed. Great decision.

Now Open: Guma Spicy Pies (Boardwalk Mall)

Guma Spicy Pies is located in the boardwalk mall, facing the boardwalk. The menu features a variety of pie flavors including beef, chicken, veggie, crab and lobster.

Now Open: Seaport Pier (featuring Green Eggs Cafe, The Dive Bar and more)

The all-new Seaport Pier is coming soon to the former location of Seaport Village at 22nd Avenue, which has sat predominantly vacant for the past several years. From a food and drink perspective, Seaport Pier will feature an additional location of the popular, Philadelphia-based Green Eggs Cafe as well as "The Sand Bar".

As described on the Seaport Pier website, the Green Eggs Cafe is a "brunch powerhouse" and "will be one of the pillar establishments at the new Seaport Pier, providing decadent eats with the freshest local ingredients, and featuring La Colombe Coffee."

Further, the forthcoming Sand Bar will be "the perfect public gathering space to meet, eat, drink and soak in the sun."

We're very eager and excited for Seaport Pier. The pier itself is scheduled to open on June 1, 2018 [SEE UPDATE BELOW], though we suspect the opening dates of the Green Eggs Cafe, The Sand Bar, and other tenants could differ. More information about the pier and it's offerings are available on their website.

[UPDATE]: Seaport Pier has posted that a soft opening will occur sometime in early June with a "grand opening weekend" on June 22nd.

[UPDATE]: Seaport Pier is still not open as of 6/25/2018

[UPDATE]: Seaport Pier is open as of 7/2018.
